English, late 19th century reproduction of the masterpiece Venus Italica, sculpted from marble circa 1812 by Antonio Canova to replace the iconic Venus sculpture seized by Napoleon for the Louvre. This example is a cast (reconstituted stone) work that graced a garden with her beauty (note the dark patina from exposure to the elements that shrouds her bare shoulders). The gathered sheet of fabric she clings to her front in modesty is still mostly white, underscoring her symbolism of love, fertility, and desire. We believe this to be in good antique condition considering its age, and any visible signs of wear are captured in the photos.
