The Mathura Head on Stand Sculpture from Currey & Company takes its inspiration from a 1st-century Bodhisattva head of the Kushan Period, rendered here in green stone and mounted on an antique brass metal stand. The carving retains the serene, idealized quality of its ancient source while the material and mount give it a collected, curatorial presence. Because the stone is natural, variations in tone and patterning across the surface are expected, and each piece carries its own particular character as a result.
