Pierre Jules Mêne Bronze Sculpture Of “Cerf Bra Ant” (Bellowing Stag), French Animalier Bronze
Chairish$950
A finely cast bronze sculpture of a calling stag, modeled after the celebrated 19th-century French animalier Pierre-Jules Mêne (1810–1879). This piece represents Mêne’s iconic design “Cerf Bramant” (Bellowing Stag), a hallmark of the French animalier school that captures the raw strength and graceful motion of the stag in mid-cry. Beautifully detailed and naturally patinated, the sculpture rests on a solid black metal plinth and bears the incised signature “P.J. MÊNE” on the base. The hollow-cast bronze displays crisp modeling throughout the body and antlers, offering a refined decorative accent suitable for both classic and contemporary interiors. A timeless example of French bronze craftsmanship inspired by one of the era’s foremost sculptors. Dimensions: 15ʺ W × 8ʺ D × 15ʺ H Period Made: Mid-20th Century (circa 1960)
