Roger Owen Prince (American 1924 - 2021) modernist abstract bronze torso sculptures. Male and female torsos can be arranged in different positions. Brutalist quality with pleasing old surface. Heavy weight. Largest of the two pieces measures 10" x 8" x 6". Prince graduated from Colby College (BA) and Columbia University (MA) and spent a Fulbright year creating sculpture in Italy. Widely collected, he exhibited throughout Maine, New England, and New York. His contribution to the Whitney Museum of American Art Biennial in 1960 was praised by New York Times art critic John Canady as a “small, complicated, beautifully ordered bronze.” For many years Prince taught art – first as director of the sculpture department at Silvermine School of Art in New Canaan, Connecticut and later as director of the Wooster Community Art Center in Danbury. In a 2009 review for the Maine Sunday Telegram art critic Phillip Isaacson wrote, “Prince’s bronzes are principally unique castings, and his hand seems very close by."
