A 1993 earthenware heart sculpture by listed artist Ryo Toyonaga. Signed in the back in kanji. Acquired from a Berkshire estate. Ryo Toyonaga was born in Matsuyama, Japan. He moved to New York City in 1986 and between 1987 and 2003, he built over 300 ceramic-based sculptures. In 2009, Toyonaga’s Mephistophelean was one of the first ceramic-based sculpture exhibitions held at the Vilcek foundation.
