"Sea Flower Blue" Welded Aluminum Sculpture By Michael Desrosiers

Chairish

$6,500

Artist Michael DesRosiers creates paintings, mixed-media works, and welded aluminum sculptures. Noted for his use of color, DesRosiers' non-objective art is as attuned to nature as it is to the complexities of the human psyche. This artist has spent decades in the studio refining his unique sensibility, one that combines the authenticity of the abstract idiom with the emotional impact of vivid color. His work has been widely exhibited in galleries and at international art fairs. DesRosiers begins a sculpture by conceiving the various components both as compelling individual shapes and subsequently as interrelated parts of a three-dimensional work of art. Once the work has the dynamic interconnections envisioned by the artist, what was a full-scale cardboard model is then fabricated in welded aluminum, paying close attention to both the placement and finesse of the welds necessary to construct the piece. The sculpture is then surface sanded, resulting in a soft silver texture that highlights the finished form and delivers an eloquent textural presentation of the aluminum. The addition of color is a final determination, whether the work is dressed in a clear coat finish or perhaps painted, with some pieces featuring a combination of both. “Sea Flower Blue” is part of a sculptural series entitled “Lost and Found Chasing Light Creating Shadow”. Created by artist Michael DesRosiers and fabricated in aluminum, this resultant shadow caster is characterized by a large, thick disc accentuated by a pair of smaller, but equally thick circular protrusions. Seamlessly attached to the plate behind them, this pairing sits on a thinner circle that reinforces the nature of the construction. From behind are intertwined tubes terminated by round plugs that together seem as though they are free-floating and subject to the vagaries of an aquatic environment or windswept garden. As a reminder of the myriad ways nature presents itself, either on land or underwater, this painted blue piece will be a thought-provoking table sculpture, something that will be as provocative as it is serenely reassuring. Despite a lexicon of simple shapes dominating the formal nature of this piece, a resultant complexity arises from an interaction with an ever-changing ambient light. Using an aluminum construction to cut light and create shadow is the operative mainstay of this work. This sculpture is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from the artist. Simple installation instructions will also be included.
