Signed William Friedle Brutalist Wildflower Sculpture

Chairish

$3,400

Signed William Friedle Brutalist Wildflower Sculpture. Eye catching. Looks wonderful on a table floating in a room or against a wall. The base measures 26” wide, 16” deep. The sculpture is 36” tall. William Friedle ran a metal sculpture shop in New York City during the early 1960s. He and his brother Bruce opened a showroom called Sculptsmith at 138 West Tenth Street in 1961. Both were under 25 years old at the time. Together they created wonderful brass and copper abstract sculptures, including this one. A 1961 New York Times article documented the opening of their shop. Many consider the Friedles to be the originators of the modern metal starburst design. Most of their starbursts were created during the 1960s. Notable collectors included Malcolm Forbes, Sammy Davis Jr., Henry Morgan, Jim Henson, Former President Nixon, Ted Kennedy, and Dom DeLuise. By the end of their run, Friedle sculptures were selling for as much as $60,000.
