A bronze statue of a young woman in Japanese garb on a marble and wood base by listed artist George Wayne Lundeen (1948- ); signed G.W. Lundeen, 1986, 30/50. George Lundeen is a nationally known sculptor of realistic figures. He achieved the status of full Academician of the National Academy of Design in New York, which is the highest professional recognition bestowed on visual arts in America. He was also a Fulbright-Hayes Scholar, studying at the Academia de Belle Arte in Florence, Italy. He has created small-scale works as well as life-size and monumental installations that are in private, corporate and government collections around the world. One of his best known pieces is the seated, life-size figure in bronze of Benjamin Franklin at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. He also has work at the Capital Rotunda in Washington DC. and in 2001, his sculpture Thomas Jefferson was dedicated at the University of Missouri-Columbia. His highest auction record for a sculpture was $31,563 at Bonhams California in 2021. This sculpture measures 17"h x 4.5"w x 4.5"d and is in excellent condition.
