This is a wonderful Early/Mid 20th C. lacquer Buddha head, impressive in scale and patina. The layers of paint include maroon, red, black, brown and gold lacquer. The details on the hairline, eyes, ears and mouth are extraordinary. Note photos of bottom which show age/thickness of wood. There are some areas of wear on lacquer due to age—see image around right eye/right temple. This wonderful piece looks good with anything—contemporary/mid century/antique, you don’t often see the genuine pieces anymore in this market. From a CA estate.
