This robust fruitwood secretary is of the Louis XV period, early 18th century. The sloping lid has a shaped interior with outboard serpentine stepped drawers behind an inlaid leather writing surface. The carved drawers with a recessed panels are the French version of the block front form.. This is difficult workmanship and exceptional to find on this type of desk. The rosette hardware appears to be original. Below a molded edge apron is held by cabriole legs. The sides are also carved and paneled.
