19th Century French Louis Philippe Secretary Desk, Secretaire À Abattant

Chairish

$2,895

This lovely piece is a 19th century Louis Philippe Secretary, or in French, a secretaire à abattant. This secretary with fall-front desk is crafted from French oak with book-matched figured mahogany veneer. A hand-dovetailed drawer is concealed in the cornice (beneath the original white marble top). Just below, the desktop opens to reveal a patterned writing surface featuring a William Morris design. Inside, there are small drawers for storing your most prized possessions. You can use the original skeleton key and antique French lock to secure your belongings. Below, open the pair of cabinet doors to reveal two shelves which provide additional storage space. We love the touch of whimsy with the scalloped bottom skirting. This secretary features an original white marble top, and rests on stepped ogee feet. We think that this piece would make a wonderful addition to a library or study, and would be equally well-suited as a correspondence desk in a bedroom or sitting room.
