This monumental piece is distinguished by the abundance and quality of its highly sculpted decoration. The upper section features an imposing dentil entablature above a front adorned with foliate scrolls and mascarons. The drop-front is decorated with a remarkable carved panel depicting a mythological or Bacchic scene enlivened by putti and classical figures. On either side, two female figures carved as caryatids support the structure of the desk. When opened, the drop-front reveals a large writing surface adorned with a decorative ironwork gallery. The lower section opens with two doors carved with pastoral and mythological scenes in relief. It is flanked by two male atlantes sculpted in the round, symbolically supporting the entire structure. The meticulous execution of the sculptures, the rich iconography, and the generous proportions attest to a high-quality piece intended for the bourgeois or aristocratic interiors of the late 19th century.
