An exceptional Federal period tambour secretary, crafted around 1800, showcasing a sophisticated combination of figured mahogany and vibrant birdseye maple. This piece beautifully exemplifies early American craftsmanship, with refined proportions and striking contrast in wood tones. The upper section features a classic tambour roll that opens to reveal an interior with small drawers and cubbies, flanked by paneled cupboard doors. The writing surface pulls out and folds open to reveal a hidden well beneath—accessed by lifting the hinged writing surface—while the top “drawer” is actually a false front concealing this compartment. Three lower drawers, adorned with oval brass pulls (not original to the piece), provide generous storage and are framed by elegant mahogany veneer.
