Danish Gustavian Green Secretary, 1780s. Extremely rare of the period Gustavian two-part secretaire cabinet made by master carpenter in southern Denmark circa 1780. This genuine antique piece with elegant neo-classical appearance and soft green and blue tones and gilt details which is typical for the Scandinavian Gustavian style which took its influence from the French Louis XVI. A classical twopart secretaire design from Northern Europe in the late 1700s. The piece consists of two sections. Lower section with three wide drawers with brass pulls and original locks. Drop down desk top reveals a compartment with 10 smaller drawers, two which are concealed in the trim. In the middle is a small cabinet with lock and internal drawer. Decorated with gilded edges and geometrical patterns. Lovely small brass pulls. Upper part is a vitrine display cabinet with double glass door. Two shelves with sculptured and gilded edges. Doors with lock and key. The true age of this antique can among other be seen in the original backing which is fastened with wooden pegs. Also in the dovetail joints which are hand cut and unevenly spaced. Original handmade iron lock boxes. Professionally restored and refreshed in the 1960s.
