Chairish

$3,200

"A truly exceptional find from a recent estate collection, this striking Early American butler's plantation secretary desk showcases the pinnacle of early 19th-century country craftsmanship. The structural primary cabinet features a deep, richly patinated solid American hardwood casing. The blind paneled upper doors feature a classic drop-down fall front mechanism that gracefully swings down to expose an incredibly rare, fully organized interior workspace clad in vibrant tiger maple (curly maple) drawer fronts. The brilliant, highly figured shimmering stripes of the tiger maple contrast beautifully against the deep honey tones of the exterior frame. The workspace is thoughtfully designed with six miniature tiger maple drawers, ten open sorting pigeonholes, and twin flanking document slots perfect for books or letters. The fold-down desk portion features a durable green felt writing insert. The cabinet's authenticity and heritage are structurally confirmed by beautiful, narrow, hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer boxes, complete with faint horizontal artisan scribe marks still visible from the original cabinetmaker. Elevated on classic turned spindle feet, this heirloom piece presents a commanding presence that balances historic gravity with everyday functional storage for a modern home office, library, or entry hall."
