An Italian Venetian tall secretary cabinet from the 18th century. This antique 7.75 feet tall (approximate) cabinet from Venice, Italy, boasts a beautifully hand-painted and embellished exterior in a floral, leaf, and scrolling cartouche motif. The upper case (which is more shallow than the case below) is crowned with a softly arched and molded cornice, and houses a pair of arched two-panel doors that open to reveal wood shelving within. The secretarial mid-section (which makes up the top section of the lower case) is found behind the slant-front door; this opens to create a writing table, and reveals a series of document cubbies and pairs of drawers for storage within. The dresser portion at bottom houses two full-sized, stacked drawers. The chest is raised nicely upon cabriole style carved feet. The color palette is primarily yellow, with green and red, and there is a bronze/brown accent trim. It has an attractive aged look. This tall cabinet breaks down into two pieces, allowing easier transport and installation. This 18th century Venetian tall bookcase/secretary will be an eye-catching room-maker--perfect for an entry foyer, living-room, or bedroom.
