Louis XV Transition Style Lady's Secretary Desk – Wood and Violet Wood Marquetry, Marble Top Dimensions: Height: 136 cm Width: 74 cm Depth: 38 cm An elegant Louis XV Transition style lady's secretary desk, opening with a top drawer, a drop-front revealing an interior with small drawers, and three drawers in the lower section. The curved front is richly veneered with wood arranged in a frieze pattern, highlighted with marquetry stringing. The drop-front is adorned with a charming painted panel depicting a gallant scene in the 18th-century style, framed by substantial Rococo gilt bronze mounts. The piece rests on cabriole legs embellished with bronze mounts and sabots. The desk is topped with a beautiful molded, veined red marble. The interior reveals a refined layout with four small drawers and a central niche, typical of ladies' writing desks designed for correspondence. French work in the Louis XV style, made at the end of the 19th century, in the style of Parisian cabinetmaking. Period Late 19th century Materials Wood, marquetry, gilt bronze, veined red marble, painted panel. Condition Good overall condition. Some wear consistent with age, minor lifting or possible old restorations to the veneer. Complete bronze mounts. Marble in good condition.
