Mahogany Chest Of Drawers With Hidden Writing Desk From Burton Reproductions, England, 1970s
Chairish$486
At first glance, this elegant piece appears to be a refined mahogany chest of drawers in the Georgian style, complete with four drawers adorned with pierced brass handles. Yet, it holds a delightful surprise: with the help of two side supports, the top unfolds to reveal a hidden writing desk. The surface is beautifully lined with green leather, delicately decorated with gilt tooling. Produced by Burton Reproductions Limited, a well-known English maker of fine traditional furniture during the 1960s–1980s, this piece perfectly combines practicality and elegance. It functions both as a useful chest of drawers and as a discreet writing desk — a versatile addition for small apartments, stylish offices, or bedrooms where space and sophistication are equally prized. Dimensions: Height: 78 cm (30.7’’) Width: 63 cm (24.8’’) Depth: 32 cm (12.6’’) Writing surface open: 65 x 63 cm (25.6’’ x 24.8’’) Writing surface closed: 63 x 32 cm (24.8’’ x 12.6’’) Condition: Good overall condition with minor signs of use consistent with age (see photos).
