Victorian Walnut Ladies Writing Desk With Gallery & Velvet Writing Surface, Circa 1880
Chairish$1,395
Elegant late Victorian walnut writing desk featuring a lift-top writing surface, decorative gallery back, and beautifully figured burl walnut panels. This desk exhibits strong Eastlake and Aesthetic Movement influences with its pierced crest rail, turned finials, geometric cutouts, and architectural trestle base joined by a turned stretcher. The slant-front writing surface retains its original green leather insert and opens to reveal a fitted interior with letter slots, document compartments, and a small accessory drawer. The raised gallery shelf provides additional display space while the burl walnut veneered panels add warmth and visual richness. The sculptural base and decorative stretcher give the desk an unusually elegant profile from every angle. Ideal as a writing desk, laptop desk, entry hall desk, or statement piece in traditional, Victorian, or eclectic interiors. The condition of this desk is as follows: The desk is structurally sound and the velvet surface shows expected wear and patina. Some finish wear and water stains on the upper gallery shelf. Minor surface scratches and age related wear throughout. The interior remains clean and functional. Original lock remains present (key not included)
