The tempered glass top exposes vibrant natural live edges on all inward-facing sides, celebrating the organic beauty of the wood. Twelve inches below the glass is a lower shelf, meticulously crafted from perfectly joined, figured walnut. Unlike most live edge pieces that require sanding smooth and coating with plastic, this table remains completely natural.The inset tempered glass highlights the natural beauty and vibrancy of the walnut, without the use of resin or stain. The walnut lumber was rescued from trees that were either dying or removed by the City of Los Angeles. Kiln-dried without steaming—preserving the contrast and vibrancy of the natural colors—the material maintains its authenticity. The 1/4-inch tempered glass, which is scratch-resistant and far more durable than resin, rests flush in the wood and is easily replaceable.Approximately three inches of polished walnut edge surround the table, finished with the same natural oil used by renowned craftsman Sam Maloof. This piece was created by artist, designer, and mixed-media sculptor Jom Rivers, whose goal is to highlight the true natural live edge style without the use of toxic chemicals. Rivers began crafting fine furniture during a fellowship at the Sam and Alfreda Maloof Foundation for the Arts and Crafts in Alta Loma, California.Jom Rivers Studio adheres to a philosophy of creating high-quality artisan work with minimal environmental impact.
