Conceived while in lockdown in 2020, the Grounded Collection from Stephen Kenn is a mediation on being grounded in peaceful creative work, while enduring forced isolation from community. The concept of the collection is a play on the dual definitions of the word "grounded," from "not allowed to participate in social or recreational activities" to "well-balanced and sensible."This piece includes three rounded leather shelves that have been hand-stitched around the blackened steel frame, set in a river rock base. The vegetable tanned leather has been hand-aged to a rich patina using oils and waxes.Each piece in this collection is carefully made by hand, from the welding and finishing of the steel frame, to the cutting and polishing of the stone base, and the cutting, stitching, and staining of the leather. All items in this collection are made to order at our studio in Los Angeles, and each piece will be unique. The river stones will vary in color and shape, and the leather treatment will have natural color variation.
