This elegant, hand painted antique sewing table was created in England circa 1880. Standing on a rectangular base with scalloped edges over a thick carved central stem, the cabinet built of "Papier-Mache", has a black lacquered finish embellished with mother of pearl inlays, floral motifs and gilt decor. The vintage box with raised surface is dressed with a scalloped apron around; when opened from the top, it reveals inside luxurious green velvet upholstery, and would be ideal for storing craft and sewing tools, or other small accessories. The Victorian style paper mache work table is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use and could also be used as a colorful side or occasional table in a den or living room.
