This occasional table is a prime example of the Rococo Revival, a 19th-century design movement that reached its peak between approximately 1840 and 1870. It emerged as a nostalgic return to the ornate, curvaceous aesthetic of 18th-century French Rococo, so popular during the reign of King Louis XV. The table features a white Carrera marble top, also sought after in the 19th century as a durable and luxurious surface. The garlanded base is likely constructed from walnut or a similar fine-grained wood. Classic stylistic features of this period found on this piece include cabriole legs, gracefully curving as they taper down to refined feet.
