Antique English Edwardian Octagonal Walnut Side Table With Burl Inlay

Chairish

$1,250

English Country style—where a collected, layered mix of furniture and objects is shaped by use, comfort, and time. A finely made English octagonal side table in walnut, featuring a beautifully composed top with a central burlwood panel framed by radiating veneers and delicate string inlay. The shaped apron is detailed with carved vertical fluting, adding depth and rhythm beneath the top. Raised on eight turned legs joined by an unusual circular stretcher with pierced detailing, the base gives the piece both visual lightness and structural strength—a hallmark of thoughtful English craftsmanship from the late 19th to early 20th century. The proportions are especially versatile. It functions easily as a lamp table, entry table, or occasional table, while the octagonal form softens a room and integrates well into layered interiors. Circa 1890–1910 (Edwardian period, with Jacobean Revival influence) JUNE’S THOUGHTS This is the kind of table that quietly does a lot of work in a room. What I respond to most is the balance—the shaped top, the burl center, and then that unexpected stretcher below. It has just enough detail to draw you in, but it never feels busy. I especially like it next to upholstery, where the octagonal form softens all the straight lines around it. It’s also a great solution when a standard round or square table feels too predictable.
