Antique Secessionist Arts And Crafts Iron Side Table By Hugo Berger For Goberg, C. 1900

Chairish

$850

ANTIQUE SIDE/WINE TABLE OR STAND Designed and made by Hugo Berger, casting an extremely stylish, simple silhouette that oozes secessionist style. A hexagonal base is supported by three simple uprights united by stretchers supporting a circular top. Suitable as a small side table for a drink/book, it could also be used as a stand to display a vase/object or it is very sculptural in its own right. Constructed from thin sheets of patinated, beaten wrought iron from the Goberg ironwork factory in Schmalkalden, Germany. Established by Berger in 1895 in the Arts and Crafts tradition, using iron and brass he became a leading figure in the Secessionist movement and the items were retailed through Liberty & Co. in London and Metz & Co. in Amsterdam and Grau & Co. in Germany. Fully stamped on the base ‘Goberg, Germany’. Probably dating from the very early 20th century, circa 1900-1905 in date, right in the heart of the Vienna Secession period. It is in good, original vintage condition with a good patina and some wear commensurate with age, including some marks, scuffs and minor dents but no serious issues or repairs. Approximate measurements: 69cm high x 28cm diameter.
