Art Deco Double-Tiered Side Table, 1931

Chairish

$361

This superb pedestal table, or tall, narrow side table with slender legs, is characteristic of the Art Deco period, the artistic movement that succeeded Art Nouveau. After exuberant forms and decorations of flowers or insects, geometric patterns and understated curves took center stage. The round top features an inlaid geometric pattern with a perspective effect. The intermediate shelf, which reinforces the base, is concave, accentuating the table's refined silhouette. Its motifs echo those of the top. The legs and the apron also feature inlays. All the craftsmanship testifies to a piece of exquisitely made furniture. This decorative piece, which can serve as a stand for a lamp, a houseplant, or a decorative object, will look wonderful in an entryway, living room, or bedroom. A testament to the talent of Lorraine cabinetmakers, it will delight lovers of beautiful objects with character. It is signed under the top and dated 1931. The wood has a patina in places, lending it the charm of a well-loved piece. There is also some minor wear and tear to certain inclusions on the top surface, which have sunken or fallen out, but this does not detract from the overall appearance. (See photos.) Height: 76 cm Diameter of top surface: 50 cm Diameter of bottom surface: 22 cm x 22 cm Weight: 5.8 kg
