A fine and rare early 18th-century baroque side table, circa 1700–1730. The table is distinguished by its extraordinarily decorative removable top panel, veneered with a bold chess board pattern in two contrasting fruitwoods, a set within a border of richly figured burr veneer, accented at each corner with a cast gilt brass oak leaf appliqué. The edge of the panel features an elaborate multi-wood banding in alternating strips of cherry, rosewood, ebonised wood and boxwood, demonstrating the exceptional skill of the maker. the apron is veneered in richly figured rosewood with a continuous light fruitwood stringing following the shaped, scalloped lower edge.
