Bauhaus Tubular Steel Side Table By Marcel Breuer For Slezak, 1930s

Chairish

$1,138

An early example of the Bauhaus side table, Model B 12, originally designed by Marcel Breuer in 1928 and manufactured around 1930 under Thonet licence by Robert Slezák in former Czechoslovakia. This iconic two-tier table features a chrome-plated tubular steel frame with cantilevered construction and two rectangular shelves made from walnut-veneered blockboard. A fine embodiment of the Bauhaus ethos, the design eliminates all unnecessary ornament in favour of elegant function and clean geometry. This version bears the unmistakable craftsmanship of Slezák’s workshop in Bystřice pod Hostýnem—a key Czechoslovak producer of modernist tubular steel furniture in the interwar period. Its minimal yet bold silhouette works equally well as a side table, nightstand, or display table in modern and vintage-inspired interiors alike. The piece is in very good original condition, with preserved chrome and wood surfaces showing only minor age-related wear consistent with its near-century-old history. I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs, designer records, or other literature sources and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising from misattribution
