This elegant Chinese pedestal table dates to the mid-19th century and would have been used for taking tea, burning incense, or displaying flowers and sculpture. The tall table has a restrained silhouette in the Ming style, crafted with traditional joinery with a rectangular, floating-panel top, a waisted apron and slender corner legs ending in hoof feet. Discreet carvings decorate the apron in low relief, chiseled to small clouds or ruyi-heads for longevity. Traces of the original lacquer cling to the surface, deepening the shadows of the beaded trim and imparting a lovely antique patina.
