Rare “coolidge” side table by axel einar hjorth for nordiska kompaniet, sweden, 1928 a seldom seen and early documented side table from axel einar hjorth’s “coolidge” series, designed for nordiska kompaniet and executed in 1928. please see a 1920s photograph showing a similar table being produced at the renowned nk workshop. the table was originally produced in ebonized birch, a characteristic finish for the coolidge range, and this example has later been painted white. The paint highlights the architectural clarity of the design, particularly the finely articulated apron with its repeating rectilinear relief pattern, which lends the piece a restrained yet graphic expression. the circular top is supported by four turned legs, connected by a well-balanced stretcher construction that reinforces both stability and visual harmony.
