The ribbed drum is finished in ivory leather using an artisinal French technique called gainage, in which a fabric or, in this case, leather is applied to a hard surface. The metal top features a concentric, etched detail inspired by European watch making; the top and bottom metal elements encapsulate the central columnal form.
