A dramatic pair of hand-carved pedestal tables, each fashioned as a mythological winged griffin — part eagle, part lion — in a dark walnut-toned finish with deeply carved feather detailing throughout the wings and a stylized curled swan-form tail at the rear. The griffins sit in a poised, upright stance atop rectangular molded plinth bases, wings outstretched and heads turned forward. Above each figure, a Corinthian-inspired capital with acanthus leaf carving transitions into a beveled octagonal tabletop. Sold as a matched pair, these pieces draw on the tradition of Continental grotto and Venetian-style furnishings, where fantastical winged creatures were carved as sculptural supports for tables and torchères. Vintage, origin unknown. The dramatic carving and dark patina make them equally striking as freestanding pedestals flanking a doorway or fireplace, or as unexpected side tables in an eclectic or maximalist room.
