Sculptural Ceramic Side Table

This side table is hand crafted by the creator from a grey stoneware clay. Inspired by the sensual curves of Jean Hans Arp's sculpture Kerry Hastings builds her forms using the ancient technique of coiling with ropes of clay. This piece has then been given a wash of porcelain slip (liquid clay) which inlays into the incised lines that Kerry makes with a pottery tool. Hand burnished with an agate stone for a pebble smooth feel to the surface, before firing in the kiln and glazed on the top surface only with a white tin glaze. Perfect as a sculptural focal point in any room, to place books, a leafy plant, or a cuppa in the morning.
