We are pleased to offer for sale a pair of side tables with drawers, whose design is inspired by the celebrated Shaker movement, the most influential and visionary American utopian community of the 19th century. These tables, however, owe their production to the remarkable entrepreneurial vision of Italian design pioneer Maddalena De Padova, founder of the iconic De Padova. In 1980, following the success of a landmark exhibition in Milan dedicated to Shaker furniture, Maddalena De Padova commissioned renowned designer George Nelson to reinterpret several original Shaker pieces preserving their extraordinary purity of form and functional rigor. The resulting collection became an outstanding commercial and critical success in Italy, and today we are delighted to present this matching pair. Ideal both as side tables and bedside tables, thanks to their versatile proportions and clean silhouette, these pieces perfectly embody the timeless Shaker philosophy: beauty derived from utility. A distinctive feature is the ingenious drawer placed beneath the square top, designed to slide fully from either side of the table for maximum practicality and ease of use. Crafted from cherry veneered plywood and solid cherry wood, the tables remain in good vintage condition, showing only light signs of age and use consistent with their history, as visible in the photographs. A refined and highly collectible pair, perfect for interiors focused on Mid-Century Modern, Minimalist, Scandinavian, or Shaker-inspired design.
