Credenza or sideboard designed by Jules Wabbes for Le Mobilier Universel, Belgium, circa 1960s. Floating solid wenge top, chrome plated cabinet frame and handles. Two black lacquered sliding doors open to separate compartments, one adjustable height shelf. Wenge top sits on top of chrome frame. Jules Wabbes was a Belgian furniture designer and interior architect. Born in Saint-Gilles, Belgium, Wabbes began his career as an actor and after several other jobs, eventually opened an antiques and decoration shop in Brussels. He created his own furniture in a modernist style and was chosen by several Belgian administrations to design and create functional furniture. All his works are based on the expression of pure quality with excellent materials (plain wood, bronze, brass, chromed steel). Very good vintage condition. Refinished wenge top. Cabinet doors, chrome tracks and chrome frame in original condition. No markings or labels present. Holes drilled on back left side for electronics access.
