19th century French ormolu-mounted marquetry meuble d'appui, circa 1880. Marquetry in the manner of earlier furniture maker Joseph Cremer. Eared rectangular white marble top sits above a frieze decorated with a foliate spray. Panelled double doors, centered by oval reserves with loose bouquets, open to an interior of two adjustable shelves. Made in kingwood and inlaid with various specimen woods such as harewood, boxwood, and fruitwoods. Profusely ormolu-mounted all over, with mounts to the doors, canted corners, and frieze. Standing on a shaped plinth base. Inlaid and mounted the same on the sides. Working locks and key. Minor chips to marble and one small area of fill, minor restorations to woodwork. Superb quality item and ready for everyday use.
