19th Century Victorian Renaissance Revival Sideboard With Mirror & Etagère

Chairish

$1,599

A striking Victorian Renaissance Revival sideboard, dating to the mid-to-late 19th century (circa 1860–1885). The upper section showcases a central mirror flanked by open tiered shelves with scalloped edges, turned supports, and carved appliqués, crowned by a molded cornice. The lower cabinet features three drawers with ornate brass pulls above three paneled doors inlaid with burled veneer, opening to ample storage space. This piece utilizes pin-and-crescent (Knapp) joinery. This impressive piece reflects the grandeur and craftsmanship of the Victorian era, blending functional storage with dramatic display. Its rich patina, intricate carving, and bold form make it an ideal focal point for a dining room, parlor, or entryway. This piece features Knapp joinery (also known as the “pin-and-crescent” joint), an early form of machine-cut drawer construction patented in 1867 and used primarily between 1870 and 1900. Recognizable by its distinctive round pins and half-moon sockets, the Knapp joint is considered both decorative and structurally sound. Its presence helps to authentically date this piece to the late 19th century, making it a wonderful example of period American craftsmanship.
