He opened his own showroom in 1868 and was known for producing quality furniture at affordable prices, gaining success through the 1880s. R. J. Horner & Co.: Robert J. Horner established his furniture company in 1886. He became known for his ornate, carved furniture and innovative marketing by displaying pieces in furnished rooms, a method that attracted both wealthy and working-class customers. The Merger: 1914/1915: The two competitors, George C. Flint Company and R. J. Horner & Co., merged around 1914-1915 to form the Flint & Horner Co. Inc. This combination created a powerful furniture maker in New York City.
