Mid-Century Ellipses Sideboard By Gordon Russell, 1950s

Chairish

$1,913

Known as the Ellipses sideboard due to its striking pattern of overlapping circles and ellipses, this piece was made by Gordon Russell and designed by their chief designer W H Russell in the 1950s. The frame is made of mahogany and the door and drawer fronts veneered in Bombay rosewood. Normally the pattern is created by routing through to white wood underneath but unusually with this example the pattern has been created by inlaying beech veneer into the front panels, something that requires a very skilled hand and we have never seen on any other example. This sideboard contains two drawers, one with a baize lined compartment for cutlery and a double cupboard with a cutaway shelf for bottles. This piece has an attribution mark, I am sure that it is completely authentic and take full responsibility for any authenticity issues arising from misattribution
