This exceptional one-off sideboard was designed and produced in France in 2002 by Parisian designer Jean-Rémy Couradette as a bespoke commission. Exemplifying Couradette’s early-2000s sculptural language, the piece combines a disciplined architectural outline with bold material expression and atelier-level craftsmanship. The façade is executed in solid oak and meticulously hand-carved into a woven-effect relief, producing a deeply modelled, three-dimensional surface with strong depth, shadow play, and tactile presence. The side panels are finished in figured bird’s-eye maple veneer, introducing a refined tonal contrast and elevating the dialogue between texture and calm, luminous grain. The composition is grounded by an architectural dark metal base with patinated brass accents, sharpening the silhouette and reinforcing the piece’s structural, almost built-form character. Professionally serviced prior to listing, the sideboard had its door hinges replaced for smooth, reliable operation, and the lacquered top surface was carefully refreshed to a clean, presentation-ready finish while preserving the original design intent.
