Circa 1900 oak small sideboard made by the prestigious firm of Wylie & Lochhead from Glasgow. This piece was made to last. The firm of Wylie & Lochhead were the biggest and most prestigious furniture makers in Glasgow from 1854-1883. They had multiple storefronts in Glasgow and were exporting their fine oak furniture all over the world at that time. This piece has the design of a 17th century Jacobean piece, and has been very well executed. The top has lovely tight graining and a beveled edge, following down to simple sides and two drawers in the front, both with raised paneled molded design. The drawers are flanked with applied double moldings for additional design interest. The piece is supported in the back with simple legs for easy placement against a wall, and fabulously hand turned legs in the front with bulbous turnings and terminating in hand turned feet. The legs are joined by simple stretchers. This is a lovely piece made of the very best quality.
