An unusually large set of English Regency Mahogany Bed Steps, dating from 1820-30. These were often also made as library steps but since this one is fitted with its original chamber pot and lid, it was definitely made for use in the bedroom. The steps are fitted with tooled red leather and the top two steps are flanked with carved pilasters. The top step is hinged and opens for storage and the second step slides forward to reveal the chamber pot and lid. It rests on large bun feet. The condition of the steps good--it has minor scratches and dings and the chamber pot lid has experienced some veneer loss, but its overall appearance is impressive, with a nice tobacco patina highlighted by the red leather steps with gold tooling. Today, these are used in any room, often as a side table for display of small items. It height of 28" makes it a perfect lamp table as well. A beautiful survivor of the English Regency period.
