Early 20th Century English Edwardian Four-Step Brass And Leather Library Steps

Chairish

$2,560

This elegant antique English four-step library staircase was crafted in the early 20th century and reflects the refined Edwardian interpretation of Neoclassical design. Intended for use in a gentleman’s study or library, the piece combines architectural clarity with rich materials, offering both practical function and decorative presence. The frame is constructed in solid brass with square-section uprights and a gracefully curved rear support rail, giving the silhouette balance and stability. The tall vertical standard is crowned with a spherical finial, a classical detail that reinforces its Edwardian character. The brass retains a warm, timeworn patina with light surface wear consistent with age and use. Each of the four shaped steps is inset with dark green leather panels framed in mahogany borders. The leather treads are decorated with gilt-tooled edging, a traditional feature found on fine English library furniture of the period. The stepped configuration wraps elegantly around the upright, creating a sculptural profile while maintaining sturdy construction. Both functional and highly decorative, this antique English library staircase is ideal for a study, wine library, dressing room, or as an architectural accent in a layered interior. A few dents in the brass. See detailed images. Dimensions: 25.5”W x 18.5”D x 77”H
