With the marble version, the designers extend the popular product family by giving the object even more pronounced monolithic and sculptural presence. Made from colored natural stone, Corker No.1 appears like a solid sculpture within the space.Jacques Herzog describes the design as follows:"You could almost see the Corker as a Pop Art object because it emerged directly and without any significant reshaping from enlarging an object that exists in our everyday culture."Crafted from polished or matt marble, Corker is not only visually striking but also appealing to the sense of touch. The cool, smooth surface of the natural stone forms a deliberate contrast to the warm, velvety cork of the original versions, inviting tactile interaction and underlining the material's sensual quality.Corker originated as part of the 2012 Serpentine Gallery Pavilion in London.
