This is a charming gilded metal faux rope curule stool with tassel feet, having a knotted central stretcher. It was produced in Italy sometime ca. 1950s. The piece has a nice weight to it and is solid. The seat is perforated metal, and is also gilt in the same method as the base. We believe the gilt facade was done utilizing the ormolu method, as there is some reddish base paint that is apparent in some places. This was, of course, executed after Europe outlawed the use of mercury in the Ormolu process. This bench measures 14 inches deep, 23 inches wide, and 23.5 inches high. It has a seat height of 18 inches and a seat interior width of 16.5 inches. It can function beautifully as occasional seating or as a vanity stool.
