This sculptural, ceramic garden seat reinvents the barrel shape of classic Chinese drum stools. Slip casted in low relief, a pattern of boss-head nails rings the top and bottom, imitating those used to stretch hide on an actual drum. The gently curved sides are decorated with a pattern of interlocking coins, a motif for good fortune and prosperity. The coin design is perforated and open, molded with a ribbed texture that resembles coiled rope or bamboo lashing. A sumptuous brown drip glaze cloaks the exterior, flowing down the sides with freeform movement and tonal variation.
