Early 18th century oak backstool from England. This is a rare example of an oak backstool from Wales during Queen Anne's reign over England. The back of the stool has a hand-carved paneled back in the "Celtic interlace" pattern, also decorated with leaves. The back follows down to a box seat and is supported on hand turned legs in the front, joined by a turned stretcher. The back legs are simple and are joined to the front by simple stretchers. This is a rare and beautiful backstool in wonderful antique condition.
