Italian, Baroque/Rococo period (18th century) footstool with the most elegant carvings across the apron and cabriole legs. Presently the boxed seat is upholstered in a serene shade of periwinkle velvet, a more recent upgrade, outlined in a slightly contrasting tufted trim of light green. The floral and foliate motifs interspersed along the wood frame have a lyrical quality as they curve along the apron, a siren's song that draws one closer to appreciate the vision of the artisan, and contemplate the luxurious opulence of the period. The painted finish has delightfully patinated to a craquelure texture in earthy hues of sand which in no way diminishes the confident stance of the short, bowed feet. Passionate craftsmanship is evident in the beautifully carved details, fluid curves and ornate motifs, iconic of the 18th century Italian aesthetic that mixes with a range of interior styles today.
