Mariette is a low stool made of concrete. Marie also designed two concrete stools, named Mariette, after her grandmother, which are placed together as puzzle pieces to create more shapes. The semicircular stool repeats the shape of the semi-circle of the Jeanne table. The rounded shapes have something feminine about them, contrasting nicely with the hard, masculine concrete. With the Mariette stools, you have not only shapes but also materials. Marie always finds it interesting to position a warm natural material such as wood alongside an industrial, man-made material such as concrete. The collection of side tables by Marie Michielssen for Serax reveals an idiosyncratic, eclectic ensemble of geometrical figures, materials and colours that unmistakably bear her signature. Cylinders and cuboids that are not only beautiful but are also very handy because of their double function as both a side table and a stool. Mix and match different tables or let a single item speak for itself; the side tables of Marie Michielssen for Serax always ‘sit’ comfortably with you.
