1st Dibs

$1,760

A Norwegian solid pine stool, model 522, executed in a stable three-legged construction with a naturally patinated, untreated surface that highlights the character of the wood. The underside of the seat is branded “Krogenæs Møbler”.Model 522 was produced for a relatively short period, primarily during the 1960s, and was originally designed as a traditional milking stool. Its lightweight and portable construction made it ideal for use in the Norwegian mountains, where cattle were milked during the summer grazing season. The design features a wide tripod base for stability on uneven terrain and a hand-carved, cupped seat for practical comfort.Cows, goats, and sheep continue to graze freely in the Norwegian highlands during the summer months, and stools of this type are still occasionally used today. Beyond its original agricultural purpose, the model has also become appreciated as a functional interior object, often used as a bedside table or as practical seating in cabins and rural interiors.____________________About Krogenæs MøblerKrogenæs Møbler was founded by Ragnvald Krogenæs in Skåbu, Norway, on July 3, 1964, with the aim of producing traditional Norwegian pine furniture for modern interiors, rooted in rural craftsmanship and agricultural heritage. The company gained early recognition in Norway, including a television feature in 1964 highlighting emerging Norwegian entrepreneurs. Production expanded during its early years, and the company experienced strong growth until the founder’s death in 1969.At its peak, Krogenæs Møbler employed around 85 people. By the early 1970s, however, the company began facing production and delivery challenges, followed by a gradual decline through the late 20th century. The company ultimately went bankrupt in 1992, with final closures occurring in the decades that followed.
